Our shelter was founded in 1995 by Stephen Berghash, MS, DVM. Dr. Berghash is a graduate of Cornell Veterinary College with both a Master of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees.
A lifelong Rochester resident, he always felt the need for a no- kill pet shelter in this area; thousands of pets were being needlessly euthanized at other so-called humane organizations. Dr. Berghash pioneered early pet spay/neuter in this area which has now become a widespread practice.
